Japanese Gold Leaf

Gold Leaf of 0.0001 millimeters thick is particularly transparent. Based on the video of " The Making of Gold Leaf" , gold leaf can be made from Silver and Copper. In order to make a gold leaf, gold is stretched by several processes. The completed gold is called as "Uwazumi", Besides the gold leaf, the right type of paper needs to be prepared too to make the gold leaf. Washi papers are the essential papers for this entire process.

Gold is a precious metal since the ancient times and it has been used in ornamental items. The finished gold leaf requires delicate handling as it is extremely thin. Gold leaf is often used to decorate various items, such as pottery, accessories and it is also used in Buddhist art like statues and symbols.

Apparently, there is another saying in Japan --- Kintsugi (Kintsukuroi) , which is where Japanese people apply golden colour onto the broken part of the pottery such as pot, cups and the rest. As Japanese people treat breakage and repair them as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.

Ozabu

Ozabu is an artist who draws soft and smooth drawings that are related to Japanese extracts with mechanical pencil. Ozabu's drawings are usually very light and soft. Just like Dimitra Milan, Ozabu's passion for arts was big influence by her parents. However, as a self-taught artist, Ozabu did not use any reference books nor does any research on what the other artists use to draw and such. Instead, Ozabu would see a piece in person and analyze it, teaching herself the technique and trying out different tools until she understands how the piece was created.      I have realized that Ozabu often draws gory drawings, some of them even reminded me of "death" even though her drawings are very beautiful. According to the interview, Ozabu's inspirations often come from her feelings and experiences, and she experienced death of someone important in her life. Therefore, her drawings included some funeral elements as they are gre...

Jack Storms  --- Optical Crystal Sculptures       Jack Storms is a Fine Art Glass Artist who designs glass sculptures (cold glass sculptures). According to Jack Storms, he created these glass sculptures without using any heat at all, all he does is grinding and it took a lot more time. It usually take him about 8-18 weeks from start to the end for each artwork. Jack Storms made glass sculptures using water, and some concepts of physics such as refractive index. He also added that his artworks cast color shadow, and it reflects the colors.      In my opinion , Jack Storms is an artist who is confident in his path of choice, he has his own perspective and I found that as an attractive point of him as an fine artist. He confessed that a lot of people asked him what his artworks mean to him , he felt that it's not the right question . His question is what his artworks mean to the people who are going to receive these ar...
