Robin Poteet

Watercolorist Robin Poteet was a freelance advertising designer for the home furnishing industry before turning her focus to full-time painting and art instruction. She teaches watercolor classes in Roanoke, as well as workshops and annual trips abroad. Poteet was one of the ten artists chosen as "Ones to Watch" by WATERCOLOR ARTIST in their December 2010 issue.

"I can open any page from my travel books and instantly recall the mood, temperature and flavor of the scene --- something I'm just not able to do with photos."

In my opinion , Poteet's sketchbooks are very nice and interesting to look at as they are all colorful and they show the mood in the places. It definitely took a lot of time and efforts to train herself to have such amazing watercolor techniques. But as she said, she thinks of sketching as an "anything goes" process. It's sometimes her way if expressing a thought in a visual way. There is no finished product to fret over, and that provides her a lot of freedom in her sketchbooks.

Ozabu

Ozabu is an artist who draws soft and smooth drawings that are related to Japanese extracts with mechanical pencil. Ozabu's drawings are usually very light and soft. Just like Dimitra Milan, Ozabu's passion for arts was big influence by her parents. However, as a self-taught artist, Ozabu did not use any reference books nor does any research on what the other artists use to draw and such. Instead, Ozabu would see a piece in person and analyze it, teaching herself the technique and trying out different tools until she understands how the piece was created.      I have realized that Ozabu often draws gory drawings, some of them even reminded me of "death" even though her drawings are very beautiful. According to the interview, Ozabu's inspirations often come from her feelings and experiences, and she experienced death of someone important in her life. Therefore, her drawings included some funeral elements as they are gre...
Cuong NguYen      Cuong NguYen is a figurative artist who is famous for painting realistic human portraits . It is said that his sometimes romantic and sometimes mysterious portraits and still life paintings reflect his positive outlook and determination to persevere . This is what makes him different from majority of the artists even though he had gone through hardships and poverty . Nowadays , Cuong NguYen works in both oil paints and pastels , he has reached a level where he can achieve smoothness of gradation  in using pastels without using blender at all . In oils , he aims for realism that never crosses the line to photographic . People see his paintings in a way that they reveal a fundamentally optimistic view of the world and a sense of wonder towards the beauty that surrounds us .      In my opinion , Cuong Nguyen has trained himself to hold a good sense of colors and which helped him to achieve the realism he wants to show in his painting...
