Dory Kanter

     " The greatest gift of sketching is how relaxing it is ---- relaxing and exhilarating at the same time . My internal art critic goes on vacation , and I am playful and don't worry about results .  "

     Dory Kanter is an artist who does quick sketches and visual story-telling in her everyday life . It appears that she leads painting and journaling workshops and is a passionate advocate of art in the schools . With great funding , Kanter has developed innovative art and literacy curricula for high school students , and she has lectured at Yale University about the importance of creativity .

     According to what Dory Kanter has mentioned , her habit at home , is to sketch as a way to reflect about each day . When traveling , she sketches all the time as well , basically whenever she sits still long enough to get out a pencil or pen . When sketching , she would always ask herself, " Why am I drawn to this particular scene or subject ? What exactly am I responding to ? " . She keeps asking herself these questions as she sketches to tease out the answers .

     She has also mentioned that the creativity for her is "What if " exploration .

     "What if I use colored pencil on top of watercolor ... and then scratch into the surface ? "
     "What if I cut up two watercolors and weave them together ? "

     Dory Kanter has inspired me to not to be afraid to try out ideas , techniques , materials and compositions as I sketch . I have learned that it is important to practise our creativity daily through sketching . To her , sketching is a language .

Ozabu

     Ozabu is an artist who draws soft and smooth drawings that are related to Japanese extracts with mechanical pencil. Ozabu's drawings are usually very light and soft. Just like Dimitra Milan, Ozabu's passion for arts was big influence by her parents. However, as a self-taught artist, Ozabu did not use any reference books nor does any research on what the other artists use to draw and such. Instead, Ozabu would see a piece in person and analyze it, teaching herself the technique and trying out different tools until she understands how the piece was created.      I have realized that Ozabu often draws gory drawings, some of them even reminded me of "death" even though her drawings are very beautiful. The Potato Girl   ( Storyline )     Many people eat potatoes , either in the form of french fries or mash potatoes . A potato had been witnessing all these scenes where it sees it ’s comrades being eaten in the cruel ways . It felt a great fear in facing it’s destiny as a potato and it’s inner thought had created a miracle , which is why it turned into a potato girl in the next morning . It was so shocked yet happy as it thought that it doesn't need to be eaten like how it’s comrades were .
